Hebrews 9:15 (NIV®)
Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.
Professional mediators take on cases where parties are unable to resolve a disagreement. They hear all sides, then preside over a give-and-take process until a resolution is reached. Jesus is our mediator, but with a twist: He gave His life so our end of the contract would be fulfilled. God’s grace, mercy, and blessings that have come to us are not simply due to His benevolence. We were sinners who were unable to fulfill our need for holiness and save ourselves, so Jesus paid the price of our sin on the cross. He became the mediator of a new contract between us and God, a contract that has eternal promises. That is the Jesus-story. Jesus bore our punishment and sacrificed Himself that we might have eternal life. It is a magnificent contract unlike any other in history, purchasing our forgiveness and our entry into the family of God.
THINK ABOUT IT
Our broken relationship with God is restored through Jesus’ death. Because of His perfect, sinless, human life, He was able to sacrifice Himself for our sin.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus taking my punishment for sin. By His sacrifice, I am redeemed out of an empty way of life, delivered from satanic bondage, and welcomed into Your eternal Kingdom. I praise You for Your mercy and grace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Blessings,
David
