THE ORIGIN AND NATURE OF ANGELS
INTRODUCTION:
Angels are celestial beings created by God to serve as His messengers and to carry out His will. Throughout the Bible, we see angels playing significant roles in God’s plan for humanity. In this study, we will explore the origin and nature of angels, examining what the Bible reveals about their creation, characteristics, and purpose.
OPEN IT:
When you think of angels, what images or descriptions come to mind? How do these compare to the biblical portrayal of angels?

- What does the Bible tell us about the creation of angels (Psalm 148:2, Psalm 142:5; Colossians 1:16)?
- How are angels described in terms of their nature and appearance (Psalm 104:4; Hebrews 1:14; Matthew 28:2-4)?

THE MINISTRY AND ROLES OF ANGELS
INTRODUCTION:
Throughout the Bible, angels are seen fulfilling various roles and ministries in God’s divine plan. They serve as messengers, protectors, worshipers, and executors of God’s judgment. In this study, we will delve into the different ways angels minister to God and His people, as revealed in Scripture.

In popular culture, angels are often depicted as benevolent beings who offer guidance, protection, and comfort to humans in various ways. How do these portrayals align with or differ from your own understanding of the roles and ministry of angels based on your personal beliefs or religious background? What are some common misconceptions or assumptions about angels that you have encountered?

THE HIERARCHY AND ORGANIZATION OF ANGELS

The Bible reveals that angels are organized into a celestial hierarchy, with different ranks and responsibilities. While the specifics of this hierarchy are not fully detailed in Scripture, there are references to various types of angels, such as cherubim, seraphim, and archangels. In this study, we will explore what the Bible tells us about the hierarchy and organization of angels.

In various religious traditions and spiritual beliefs, there is often a concept of a celestial hierarchy or organization of heavenly beings. Have you ever wondered about the different types or ranks of angels mentioned in the Bible, such as cherubim, seraphim, or archangels? What questions or curiosities do you have about the way angels might be structured or categorized? How do you think understanding the hierarchy of angels could impact our perception of God’s divine order and sovereignty?

ANGELS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT
INTRODUCTION:
The Old Testament contains numerous accounts of angels interacting with God’s people, delivering messages, providing protection, and carrying out God’s judgments. By studying these encounters, we can gain valuable insights into the nature and role of angels in God’s unfolding plan of redemption.

The Old Testament contains numerous accounts of angelic encounters. Growing up, did you learn about any of these Old Testament stories involving angels? If so, which ones made a particularly strong impression on you, and why?
DIG INTO IT:
- How did angels minister to Hagar in Genesis 16:7-14 and Genesis 21:14-19, and what do these encounters reveal about God’s care for the oppressed and marginalized?
- What role did angels play in the life of Abraham, particularly in the events surrounding the birth of Isaac (Genesis 18:1-15; Genesis 22:11-18)?
- How did the angel of the Lord protect and guide the Israelites during their exodus from Egypt and their wilderness wanderings (Exodus 14:19-20; Exodus 23:20-23)?

GUARDIAN ANGELS: WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?
INTRODUCTION:
The concept of guardian angels has captured the imagination of many people, both within and outside the Christian faith. Some believe that every person has a specific angel assigned to protect and guide them through life. In this study, we will examine what the Bible actually teaches about the idea of guardian angels and how this understanding should shape our faith and perspective.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you felt that you were protected or guided by an unseen presence, perhaps even an angel? How did this experience impact your view of God’s care and protection in your life?

THE FALL OF LUCIFER AND THE ORIGIN OF DEMONS
INTRODUCTION:
While angels were created to serve and worship God, the Bible also reveals that some angels, led by Lucifer, rebelled against God and fell from their positions in heaven. This rebellion gave rise to the existence of demons, who now oppose God and seek to lead humanity astray. In this study, we will explore what the Bible teaches about the fall of Lucifer and the origin of demons, and how this understanding should impact our view of the spiritual realm.

In popular culture, the figure of Lucifer (or Satan) is often portrayed as a powerful, rebellious being who opposes God. How do these depictions compare or contrast with your own understanding of Lucifer based on your knowledge of the Bible?

THE NATURE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF DEMONS
INTRODUCTION:
Demons, also known as unclean or evil spirits, are fallen angels who joined Lucifer in his rebellion against God. Throughout the Bible, we see numerous examples of demons interacting with and influencing human beings. By examining the nature and characteristics of demons, we can gain a better understanding of their tactics and how to resist their influence.
OPEN IT:
In our society, the concept of demons is often associated with supernatural horror stories or fictional depictions of evil. How have these portrayals influenced your perception of demons?
DIG INTO IT:
- According to Mark 5:1-20, what characteristics and abilities did the demons possessing the man living among the tombs exhibit?
- How do passages like Matthew 12:43-45 and Luke 11:24-26 describe the behavior and desires of demons when they are not possessing a human host?
- In 1 Timothy 4:1, Paul warns about “deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.” What does this reveal about the deceptive nature of demons and their influence on human beliefs?
- How does James 2:19 describe the demons’ response to the knowledge of God, and what does this indicate about their spiritual state?
